The Tun Legacy Foundation is pleased to announce the achievement of major project milestones to construct The Tun® in Old City Philadelphia.

  • The construction documents prepared by the nationally acclaimed architect and engineering firm Ballinger are 100 percent complete.
  • The City of Philadelphia’s Zoning Board of Adjustment provided zoning approval for the project.

“Achievement of these milestones is significant,” said Pat Dailey, president and founder of The Tun Legacy Foundation. “It paves the path to complete construction trade agreements by Wolfe Scott Builders and Construction Managers, as well as for building permit approval, which is expected next month. All that remains is completing the fundraising. Today, fundraising remains The Tun Legacy Foundation’s major priority.”

With successful fundraising efforts over the coming months, the Foundation can close its funding gap to secure a construction loan and begin construction. Once the funding is in place, the Foundation will announce a construction start date.

“As you well know, construction timelines vary. While the previously announced grand opening timeline must be adjusted until the Foundation secures funding, we are proud of the milestones that have already been reached, and excited about the tremendous momentum that has been created by every supporter,” said Dailey. “We’ve achieved these remarkable milestones thanks to the incredible support and enthusiasm of Marines, Freemasons, Midshipmen, representatives from the three benevolent societies with a heritage at the historic Tun, the City of Philadelphia, civic and community members, and the interested public.”

The Tun Legacy Foundation’s rebuilding efforts are gaining national attention, prompting individuals across the country to offer their support through in-kind services, materials, purchases of Tun® tankards, mugs, and brick pavers (part of the Foundation’s Ways to Contribute), and by joining the 1775 Club.

We are committed to rebuilding The Tun® and it will get done!

What’s Next
Later this month, The Tun Legacy Foundation will:

  • The Foundation’s Advisory Group – a non-governing body of distinguished experts who are donating their time to provide strategic counsel and specialized knowledge.
  • A detailed announcement of the Foundation’s full schedule of activities, all leading up to the United States Marine Corps’ 250th birthday on November 10, 2025. These celebrations, in partnership with Homecoming 250, are designed to be a major opportunity to connect with and involve supporters of The Tun® project.
  • A report on the Foundation’s participation at Modern Day Marine in Washington, D.C. (April 28-May 1), where representatives successfully built awareness and support for The Tun® through a reception, show events and at the expo.
