Masonic Temple Library & Museum, One North Broad Street
Start times: 4:00 p.m. (SOLD OUT), 4:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m.

The historic Tun is considered the Birthplace of Pennsylvania Freemasonry, where the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania was formed in 1731. Take a 45-minute guided tour of the 150-year-old Masonic Temple, a National Historic Landmark and home to the Masonic Library and Museum and the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, and you will learn about the Pennsylvania Freemasons’ heritage at the historic Tun, view significant Tun artifacts from the museum archives, and hear about the connection between the Tun, Freemasonry and the Marines. The tour will be offered four times.
Among the facts you will learn on the tour; Robert Mullan, one of the proprietors of the historic Tun, and Samuel Nicholas, who became the first commandant of the Continental Marines, were both Freemasons who met in the Tun.
On the tour, view an original cobblestone from the site of the historic Tun, gifted by Colonel W.D. Douglass, a Marine and Freemason, and a tablet erected and placed at the historic Tun site by the Philadelphia Chapter #16 Sojourners Club.

“The connection between Freemasony and the Marines is from the very, very start.”
– Robert Brink, Chairman, Board of Directors, The Tun Legacy Foundation
Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master, The Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania
