Marine Kevin Hyde Uses Award Nomination to Raise Funds for The Tun™

Kevin Hyde, a Marine and the president and co-founder of Philadelphia-based Layer 8 Security, has been nominated by JerseyMan & PhillyMan Magazine for its 2024 Man & Woman of the Year Award. The prize annually recognizes honorees for their professional and philanthropic achievements. It also helps its six nominees raise funds for charities that are important to them.

For Hyde, that nonprofit is the Tun Tavern Legacy Foundation.

“The Foundation’s mission to reestablish The Tun™ in Philadelphia and donate all proceeds from operations of The Tun™ to veteran and charitable causes was what connected with Kevin, who served in the Marines for 21 years until his retirement in 2022,” said Patrick Dailey, Tun Tavern Legacy Foundation President and Founder. “We are grateful to Kevin for using this meaningful personal recognition to raise awareness and funds for The Tun™.”

“The Tun™ is a place where organizations can gather. It’s a place where somebody can help you find your way, if you need that assistance,” Hyde said. “And it’s a place that can also help tell not only the history story of the Marines, but also the story of today’s veterans.”

In Hyde’s 21 years of service to the Marine Corps, intelligence community, and U.S. Cyber Command, he was responsible for creating and deploying cyber maturity models and training pipelines for small, allied nations. In the private sector he served in business growth roles in technology, consulting and –commerce. In addition to his professional expertise in establishing cybersecurity operations and program for private industry and the intelligence community, Hyde volunteers his time to support nonprofit organizations and students.

He served on the executive boards of Folds of Honor, an organization that provides scholarships to the spouses and children of America’s fallen or disabled military and first responders, and the Veterans Business Referral Network. He continues to give back through his participation on local zoning commission boards, and his role as an adjunct professor and guest lecturer for local universities.
